Bordesholm has around 8,000 inhabitants, is located in the southern part of the district of Rendsburg Eckernförde and borders the town of Neumünster to the south.

Bordesholm has a railroad station on the Hamburg-Kiel line. Regional express lines 7 and 70 run in the direction of Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (via Neumünster) and Kiel Hauptbahnhof within the Schleswig-Holstein public transport network.

Bordesholm is connected to the German highway network via junction no. 11 on the federal highway 7. There is also a connection to the state highway 49. The village is crossed in a north-south direction by the intersecting state highway 318 from Kiel to Neumünster.
