The town of Gransee is located 65 kilometers north of the center of Berlin and has been part of the Oberhavel district since 1993. Gransee received a rail connection at the end of the 19th century with the construction of the Nordbahn. The town is conveniently located. Federal highway 96 runs through Gransee and it is a stop for regional trains on the Berlin-Stralsund railroad line. The regional express train takes you directly to the heart of Berlin in just 40 minutes (hourly service), and it is only about 30 km on the B 96 to Berlin's A 10 freeway. Public transport buses run within the town and the individual districts.

Gransee's main sights are the St. Marien Church, the town fortifications with the Ruppiner Tor (Ruppin Gate), the Powder Tower and the Weichhäuser, the Luisen Monument in memory of the Prussian Queen Luise, the remains of the Franciscan monastery and the town forest with the Warteturm.
