Hattersheim am Main is a town with 28,528 inhabitants in the Main-Taunus district in southern Hesse. It is centrally located in the Rhine-Main region between Frankfurt am Main, Mainz and Wiesbaden. Hattersheim borders the independent city of Frankfurt am Main to the north-east, the town of Kelsterbach to the south-east, the town of Raunheim (both in the district of Groß-Gerau) to the south-west and the towns of Flörsheim am Main and Hofheim am Taunus as well as the municipality of Kriftel to the west.

Barrage
The Eddersheim barrage with a 350 m long double lock was built between 1929 and 1934 as part of the last barrage regulation of the Main. It is an outstanding monument to the industrial architecture of the time. Due to wartime shortages of raw materials, the hydroelectric power station could not be completed until 1941. Along Mönchhofstrasse and Kraftwerkstrasse, a housing estate was built in 1928 - and extended in 1942 - for the employees of the lock and the power station. It is also a listed building and has the typical stables and large gardens for self-sufficiency that were typical of service housing at the time.
