Winterstein is part of Waltershausen and is a small, green, quiet village in the middle of the Thuringian Forest. An Eldorado for nature lovers. Nevertheless, the location is relatively convenient. It is 29 km to the center of Gotha and 24 km to Eisenach.
There is a bakery in the small commercial area right on the doorstep, approx. 7 minutes by bike. A supermarket (Norma) is approx. 4 km away.
There is a train station in Sättelstädt which is 8.4 km away (approx. 11 minutes by car). From there there are over 30 trains a day to Erfurt and back, the first at 4.21 am and the last at 10.51 pm. The scheduled journey time is 33 minutes. Bus connections are 842 to Gotha, 840 to Tabarz/Friedrichroda/Seebach 841 to Waltershausen station (town center).
From the neighboring town of Tabarz there is a romantic streetcar ride on the Thuringian Forest Railway to Gotha station.
The airport in Erfurt can be reached by car in 35/40 minutes.
The dentist will be your property neighbor and there is also a general practitioner in the village. Several other doctors are located in the neighboring village of Tabarz. The hospital can be reached in 12 minutes by car.
Schools are: Schwarzhausen/ Emsetal elementary school, Hörselgau elementary school, Tabarz state secondary school, Waltershausen state secondary school, Friedrichroda grammar school and the Salzmann School in Waltershausen, for particularly linguistically gifted pupils.
There are many leisure activities and places of interest in the surrounding area.
