Erlensee is a town in the Main-Kinzig district of Hesse on the B66 highway about 25 km east of Frankfurt am Main.

Erlensee is located at the transition from the Wetterau to the Kinzig valley at around 110 m above sea level. The Kinzig flows past the town to the south before entering the extensive forest area of Bulau to the southwest of Erlensee. The Ronneburg hill country begins to the north of the town.

The town of Erlensee borders the town of Bruchköbel to the northwest and the municipality of Neuberg to the northeast, as well as the town of Langenselbold and the municipality of Rodenbach to the east. To the southwest, the town of Erlensee borders the town of Hanau.

Erlensee consists of the two districts of Langendiebach (~ 8,030 inhabitants) and Rückingen (~ 5,975 inhabitants).

The Honda company has built a European training center, the "Honda Academy", in the new Erlensee business park in the Langendiebach district. The 24-Autohof has set up shop next door. According to its own information, the Autohof chain is one of the most important Autohof chains in Germany. McDonald's opened across from the Autohof at the end of June 2013. Dachser's "Frankfurt-Ost" logistics center commenced operations in February 2012. The Heinemann company has also set up shop here. It operates duty-free stores at airports and is building its second large "Logistics Center South" in Erlensee. This makes Erlensee a very important location for the company's development alongside Hamburg. The forwarding company Fenthols is building a large logistics center in the immediate vicinity.

The town of Erlensee is directly connected to the federal highway 66 (Frankfurt-Fulda) and the federal highway 45. The federal highway 8/federal highway 40 used to run through Rückingen. Between the Erlensee junction in the southwest and the Langenselbolder Dreieck interchange in the northeast of the town, the federal highway has now been replaced by the A 66 and the section has been downgraded. The state roads L3193 and L3268 as well as the district roads K 850 and K854 also serve the town's interurban traffic.

There is no direct rail connection in the town of Erlensee; the nearest train stations are in the neighboring municipalities of Hanau, Rodenbach and Langenselbold. It remains to be seen how the rail connection to the Langendiebach airbase, which has become vacant, will be used in future.

Local public transport is provided by Kreis-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft Main-Kinzig (KVG) as part of the Rhine-Main transport network.
