Location
Between 1927 and 1937, more than 500 three-storey apartments were built on the eponymous Paddenpuhl, which is technically only a rainwater collection basin but nevertheless makes a significant contribution to the design of the green spaces as a small lake. The architect Fritz Beyer played a key role in the urban planning concept and designed the first houses built in the 1920s. In the following decade, the architects Josef Scherer and Erich Dieckmann worked on the project.
As soon as you enter the estate, you notice the unusual details of the design. The windows are generally multicolored, as are most of the house corners and the frames of the loggias, whose jagged arches and colorful columns stand in stark contrast to the massive bay windows. This expressionist treasure trove of quotes by the architect and the generous green spaces designed by Erwin Barth make the estate a special feature in Berlin
