Deep in the Allgäu, in a sheltered valley, in the middle of the forest in a clearing and right next to a stream, the Hammerschmiede has been located for around 400 years. Outside, the storms rage. In 1907, the last blacksmith laid down his tools. The hammer mill lay dormant for many years until we started to bring it back to life. In 2015, we renovated the building from top to bottom.
Our task was to preserve the historic charm of the building and transform it into the present. To create a pleasant living environment, the façade was completely renovated. Vertical and horizontal wooden frames reinforce the exterior wall and accommodate two layers of wood fiber insulation boards. A climate membrane makes the house windproof. The shielding is made of local timber, left rough-sawn. For the front of the main house, the 80-year-old shingle master carved tens of thousands of shingles by hand.
The hammer mill is not a listed building. We were able to preserve the historic windows on part of the second floor. Double-glazed windows, as well as the electrics and the roof were renewed before our time. The house is heated by oil-fired central heating and wood-burning stoves. The oil burner was recently replaced. Underfloor heating has been installed on the first floor and above the garage.

The Hammerschmiede is located directly on the Tobelbach stream, which only offers positive aspects. The stream remains in its bed and does not threaten to flood.
The Tobelbach provides natural air conditioning. Despite rising summer temperatures, it is pleasantly cool to sleep in the evening.
For many, the most extraordinary thing about the Hammerschmiede is the silence. Here you are surrounded by pure nature and yet you can be in the village or the nearby town of Lindenberg within minutes or at Lake Constance in just under 40 minutes. By taking the path into the ravine, you can consciously leave the hustle and bustle of the 21st century behind you and enjoy a different pace of life. It is a very special, ancient place of power. A real paradise in the Allgäu.
In winter, the Hammerschmiede is safely nestled away. The cozy, historic building protects you from the cold and the wooden walls radiate warmth and security. The wood-burning stoves provide pleasant additional warmth to the oil central heating. The road that leads through the forest to the house is a municipal road. Snow is cleared regularly, starting at six o'clock at the latest. A cross-country ski trail and extensive winter hiking trails lead a few meters from the house into the Allgäu, which is fabulously networked for winter sports.
