Recklinghausen is connected to the A2 and A43 highways, and the B 225 federal highway also begins in the city area. The Wallring encircles the historic old town and forms the starting point for important entry and exit roads. Recklinghausen also has a shipping connection, the Recklinghausen city harbor is located in the south of the city on the Rhine-Herne Canal.
