The Lukaskirche, located at Lassallestraße 12 in the Almenhof district of Mannheim, is a remarkable example of modern church architecture and offers numerous possibilities for creative uses. The building was constructed between 1965 and 1967 according to the designs of Mannheim architect Carlfried Mutschler and is characterized by its unusual architecture. Particularly striking is the seemingly floating flat roof, which is supported by eight striking concrete pillars and gives the building an almost airy lightness. This architectural element symbolizes the wandering community and blends harmoniously into the overall picture.
The building itself is spacious and flooded with light, with a circumferential skylight band that provides the interior with natural light and creates a bright, open atmosphere. The freestanding bell tower rounds off the ensemble and contributes to the clear, iconic silhouette.
In the basement, there is a community hall that is flooded with daylight through glazed areas. These rooms offer a high degree of flexibility and are suitable for cultural events as well as social or community projects. The artistic design of the interior was created by Stuttgart artist Otto Herbert Hajek, whose works emphasize the sacred design of the church and create a unique atmosphere.
In 2024, St. Luke's Church was deconsecrated by the Evangelical Church of Mannheim, which means that the building is no longer used for worship purposes. This decision opens up new possibilities for repurposing the building, which is ideal for cultural, social or commercial purposes. Due to its unusual architecture and flexible room layout, the church offers potential for a variety of usage concepts, be it as a cultural center, event venue, office building or as a space for social institutions.
St. Luke's Church represents an ideal opportunity for investors looking for a unique building with history and potential. It combines modern architecture with practical uses and offers space for innovative projects that can take the building into a new era.
