Remscheid: A city combines tradition and innovation

"Seestadt auf dem Berge" is the name given to the district-free city of Remscheid in the Bergisches Land region - referring to its long tradition as the headquarters of world-renowned metal and tool manufacturers. With a population of just over 109,000, the smallest major city in North Rhine-Westphalia is located near the two larger cities of Solingen and Wuppertal, close to the A1 autobahn. Various parks, the surrounding landscape of the Bergisches Land region, and numerous hiking and biking trails in and around the city make Remscheid a city with high recreational value. And for those who prefer to enjoy culture instead, the Teo Otto Theater as well as various other small venues and cultural centers, the Bergische Symphoniker, the city library and the city's museums offer a wide range of activities. Of particular note is the German Röntgen Museum, which commemorates the life and work of Remscheid's most famous son: Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who was born in 1845 in what is now the city's Lennep district.

Traditional location for tool production

The economic life of Remscheid is still characterized by the tool production that has been located here for a long time. Famous traditional companies such as GEDORE, HAZET and other tool manufacturers still produce in the city today, as well as mechanical engineering companies, supplier companies for the automotive industry and the well-known heating, air conditioning and ventilation technology manufacturer Vaillant. The numerous companies and businesses in Remscheid benefit greatly from the city's well-developed transportation connections. Situated directly on the A 1 freeway, which connects Remscheid with the major cities of the Rhine region and the Ruhr area, the city also has a connection to the S 7 suburban train line, which can be used to reach the two neighboring cities of Solingen and Wuppertal with their long-distance train stations. A well-developed network of bus lines ensures mobility in the city area.

Relaxed real estate market

The Remscheid real estate market is characterized by a relatively favorable price level - however, as in other localities, with large differences between the respective residential locations. The housing market in the small city of Remscheid is nowhere near as tight as in the metropolises of the Rhineland - and offers without brokerage commission are plentiful. In contrast to Cologne or Düsseldorf, you hardly have to make any compromises in Remscheid if you want to find a rental apartment offered without a broker's commission. The offer of broker-free properties is scarcer for condominiums, whereas owner-occupied homes are more often sold commission-free. This is because sellers also know that in a relaxed market situation such as that in Remscheid, they have much better chances of a quick letting or successful sale if they advertise their property without a broker. As far as rental and purchase prices are concerned, living in Remscheid is also a lot cheaper than in the neighboring city of Solingen, for example. According to the real estate portal immobilienscout24.de, the average rent per square meter in Remscheid is 5.50 euros, condominiums cost an average of 1,150 euros per square meter and owner-occupied homes 263,000 euros.
